When I was little, I had a bunch of different answers to the “what do you want to do when you grow up?” question. For different periods of time, I wanted to be a teacher (I’m very bossy), a marine biologist (I was really into the Madeline L’Engle A Ring of Engless Light set of books and thought dolphins were cool), a librarian (books). But when I think about what lies at the heart of those answers, what I really want to spend my time and life doing…

Is reading books. And drinking tea. Whilst reading books.

I love books! I always have, since before I could read them for myself, and my mother asked the doctor worriedly if there was something wrong with me, because all I wanted to do was to be read to. I love reading them, I love buying them, I love spending my days at libraries and little book-shops, I love talking about them, I love organizing them.

So here I am. I’ll attempt to write about books at a pace that at least attempts to keep up with my voracious appetite for reading them. These posts will likely be not especially scholarly– I’m working on my MA and have quite enough of formal writing in my life, thank you– but I will warn you to expect some of my academic work to seep into the blog.

Thank you for visiting! Now pour yourself a cuppa and stay a while.
